Civil war hunting or relic hunting is another hobby where the arc-geo logger will help in depth and time. If you think a new site may hold some relics, just do a quick grid and you will know. A quick grid of an area will show the concentrations of metals and positions in the field.
Lamar has been hunting civil war for a very long time. He has used many different detectors over the years. He now uses Whites TDI pulse detector. He builds coils for the TDI for his own use and has them for sale on the accessories page.
Below is a rig he designed for logging. It holds the logger, computer and TDI detector. A sweet little cart for sure. The square frame is the coil. All PVC tubing. He can log in real time and see his position on the grid as he walks.
If you are interested in Lamars coils for the Whites TDI pulse detector you can see his coils here.
Lamar will have some grids and targets recoverd soon and I will place them here in a picture viewer format.
Large civil war shells are easy to find with this setup. Lamar can cover a very large area in a small amount of time and have records of his sites. He can choose to recover the larger targets first or come back another day to recover them.
Buy using a GPS position on oppsite grid corners and placing a small copper tubing in the ground, he can come back locate the tubings, set his grid up and recover by x, y position.
He can add grids together in software to get a better feel of the area he is searching. If he has a map of the camp layout he should see the blacksmiths position and now has a reference on the map and in the field!
Thanks to Tim.W he has saved me countless hours of digging empty holes. I got a chance to make some scans of Confederate tent huts here in Central Ms. where the troops stayed in for over a year. The first scans in one of the tent hut showed nothing, but the second tent hut showed lots of iron and ect. That's the one I wanted to dig out because I knew there were civil war relics in the floor of the hut left behind by the troops. All the relics were down about 3 to 4 foot. The reason there is iron in the huts is because the troops would put the iron on the fire to help keep it warmer inside. I did not find anything worth $ but you don't know till you try. I did find in one tent hut 2 years ago and found a rare C.S. Buckle worth 10k+. and there is more there because 5 has came from the same place, what is good about this place is I am the only one allowed there. The detector I was using was the Whites TDI with a 18" mono that I build and sell all over the world. Thanks again Tim. for the Arc Geo Logger.
